This playing with genres has been released through a mini-album “Identity”, music for which was written by musician Monoconda (real name is Oleksandr Filonenko). This album had been recorded at the beginning of 2022 - about a month before the war in Ukraine started, in a feeling of what was about to happen inevitably. Thus it contains all that matters, the essence of time as the author felt it. “When life hits you with all its fury — you immediately start to understand things a bit better. You understand the meaning and the importance of your home, your nature as a human being and a personality as well. When the war hit Ukraine — things became black, white and clear at that very moment. Your identity comes out of a crisis of your personality, your consciousness makes some huge transformations in a very short period of time. War, despite all of its fears and horrors, death and devastation, speeds up a lot of processes. Whether they are economical, political or social. When you realize that tomorrow may not come — you start to move a bit faster.” - Monoconda says. Oleksandr Filonenko aka Monoconda is a Kyiv based multi-instrumentalist, music composer, sound producer and a live performer. While making music for commercials, theater and public places, Monoconda started to release his own electronic music in 2018 with an album called “Alphabet”. His second release, “Low Light” was recorded during the pandemic isolation, and was named as one of the best records of the year by top Ukrainian musical journalists. There was much music recorded after that, alone and in collaboration with different musicians, but the pandemic and the war have made the release process somehow impossible or at least quite a hard quest. But the music is always being done, cause that’s what he is here for. Kashtan is the label of Vera Logdanidi, co-founder of the Kyiv party series Rhythm Büro and Natura festival. The label selection focuses on pure creativity, neverminding shifts in trends and time. Since 2017, Vera has been hosting a radio show of the same name - Kashtan - on the waves of Kyiv independent project 20ft Radio. The show consists mainly of unreleased tracks by Ukrainian electronic producers. Kashtan assists in presenting not very known or absolutely new musicians to a global audience. The show places them on the same level with already established producers, whilst also revealing their creative personalities.
