Welcome to the Star wax office, a glass of?

Lavender lemonade.

How was your childhood and the environment where you grew up?

I grew up in a challenging environment, with a lot of instability. It took me years to understand and work through it, and I’m still learning. But it definitely shaped who I am today, especially the way I feel and approach music.

Who are your main influences?

My influences are not really one person or one genre. Growing up in Georgia, I was surrounded by a wide range of music, from classical and opera to jazz and rock. That diversity still shapes how I approach music today.

How did you discover electronic music?

I discovered electronic music when I was about 14 in Batumi Beach Club called Tarabua, but techno really hit me later at an underground party in Leipzig. That experience completely changed how I felt about music.

Your first approach to Djing?

I started learning DJing in 2017 at a mixing school, Ministry of Mixing, back then it had a different name. I worked with both vinyl and CDJs. I can really recommend it as a place to learn. Later I spent a lot of time at Pirate Studios, recording my first sets, that was a really exciting time for me. I had to take breaks during my nursing training, so it wasn’t always consistent.

Why did you choose the name DJ Mondfinsternis, any anecdotes?

The name came quite unexpectedly. I met someone from Georgia in Berlin who was playing in a post-punk band, and he wrote: “you should be called DJ Mondfinsternis”. It immediately clicked. The moon has always had a very personal meaning to me.

What was decisive to become a DJ?

After moving to Berlin and getting into the techno scene, I spent most of my time going out and dancing. At some point, people asked if I was a DJ. A friend said: “Why don’t you try it?”; and that was the moment it clicked.
